Job Summary

The Occupational Health, Safety and Wellness (OHSW) Summer Student will focus mostly on Ergonomics and Job Demands Analysis. This role works directly with the safety team to improve the overall health, safety and wellness of staff. They will assist in the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of staff safety activities. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of ergonomics while contributing to the health and safety initiatives of our organization.

Primary Responsibilities

• Act as a support for the Occ Health team
• Supports and participates in the data collection (audits, focus groups), analysis, preparation, and deliverance of reports related to staff safety.
• Conduct ergonomic assessments of workstations and job tasks to identify potential risk factors.
• Assist in the development and delivery of ergonomic training programs for employees.
• Update Job Demands Analysis’ for a variety of positions throughout the hospital.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a Kinesiology, Ergonomics or Occupational Health and Safety Post-Secondary Program
• Demonstrates initiative and commitment to research and learning
• Ability to work independently or in a team environment
• High level of composure, ability to work under pressure
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, word, Excel and PowerPoint)
• Excellent organizational, multi-tasking & time management skills
• Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal
• Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork
• Demonstrated ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality
• Prior experience with ergonomic assessments or related research is preferred but not required.
• Knowledge of relevant employment legislation (Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Labour Relations Act, etc) is considered an asset

As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination to the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety department. Successful candidates will be required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination (two doses) from the Ontario Ministry of Health website or other authorized source directly to the Occupational Health and Safety department. In the event that you are unable to be vaccinated as a result of a ground protected under the Human Rights Code, you may submit a written explanation of the ground and any supporting documentation to determine if you are exempt from this requirement to the recruitment team.
