Job Summary

The Professional Resource – Financial Analyst position is responsible and accountable for accurately and timely performing duties required providing operational support to Financial Services and the Hospital in the areas of month end and year end closing, MIS Guidelines, Accounting Standards, and internal/external reporting and account reconciliation.

Primary Responsibilities

• Preparation of monthly, quarterly, and year-end journal entries
• Provide support with the review and completion of full cycle accounting including balance sheet account and funding reconciliation
• Coordinate the year end audit, includes working paper file preparation for the Liabilities and P&L sections, preparing lead sheets, answering auditors’ queries and BPS submission
• Works closely and collaboratively with the financial planning and analysis team for reporting, analysis, proposals, and special reports
• Monthly variance analysis for accuracy and integrity of financial data
• Provide support to the planning process
• Analyze and interpret complex financial data supported by statistics
• Interpret Ministry of Health funding letters and agreements
• Keep abreast of insurance, Ministry and claim submission agreements and bulletins
• Prepare and present ad-hoc reports on financial information to Senior Leadership, providing valuable insights and recommendations
• Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly and yearly financial/statistical reports for internal and external reporting
• Prepare entries and assist with quarterly MIS submissions
• Provide education/training on Financial processes
• Identify, develop and implement process improvements through simplification and automation, to achieve greater efficiency and effectiveness
• Other duties as assigned

Skills & Abilities

• 5 years of recent experience
• Experience in full cycle accounting essential with high attention to detail
• Advanced proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint
• Proficiency on MIS Guideline/OHRS guidelines, Public Sector Accounting Standards and Canadian GAAP
• Demonstrated knowledge of Financial software applications – i.e. Meditech,
• Strong analytical skills
• Previous healthcare experience an asset

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Business or relevant program of study
• Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)

As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination to the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety department.
