Job Summary

Perform under the direction and supervision of the Pathologists; all duties related to the preparation, dissection and gross description of surgical specimens of all complexity, while adhering to all established protocols and procedures.

Skills & Abilities

• Prior experience as a Pathologist Assistant
• CoPath and Dragon voice dictation experience an asset
• Understanding of fixation and tissue structure preservation
• Understanding of specimen sampling and impact on subsequent specimen processing
• Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
• Ability to perform tasks and assignments under pressure and time constrictions while remaining calm and composed
• Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology with emphasis on the pathological presentation of disease
• Strong observational skills and exceptional attention to detail
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology
• Ability to work effectively as a member of a team and independently
• Ability to contribute and work within an interdisciplinary team
• Commitment to professional accountability and high standard of performance
• Computer literacy in windows based applications
• Working knowledge of laboratory safety requirements with a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace
• Ability to prioritize and work independently with minimal supervision
• Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal
• Demonstrated problem assessment skills
• Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork

Qualifications

• Current CCCPA Certification
• Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Medical Laboratory Technologist with advanced level courses in anatomy and physiology
• Graduate of Pathologist Assistant training program preferred

As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination to the Hospital’s Occupational Health and Safety department. Successful candidates will be required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination (two doses) from the Ontario Ministry of Health website or other authorized source directly to the Occupational Health and Safety department. In the event that you are unable to be vaccinated as a result of a ground protected under the Human Rights Code, you may submit a written explanation of the ground and any supporting documentation to determine if you are exempt from this requirement to the recruitment team.
