Job Summary

The successful candidate will be motivated, self-directed and a key member of a dynamic inter-professional team with defined roles focused on quality patient care and patient flow. The successful candidate will be responsible to provide excellent care to acute medical/surgical patients admitted in the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department expects to have frequent turnover of admitted patients, and the successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with change of patient assignments.

Qualifications

• Current RN Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario
• One (1) year recent acute hospital medical nursing experience preferred
• Excellent physical assessment skills are essential
• Current BCLS certificate, ACLS certificate preferred
• Coronary Care I and Coronary Care II preferred, or willingness to obtain
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both written and verbal
• Demonstrates excellent problem solving, decision making and critical thinking skills
• Demonstrates excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Demonstrates initiative and the ability to function both independently and as an interprofessional team member in a fast paced demanding environment
• Demonstrates a commitment to a safe environment for staff, patients and families by working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety regulations and completing mandated training and educational sessions as required
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate within an inter-professional team
• Must be able to deal effectively with patients and family members in crisis situations
• Excellent computer skills
• Demonstrates excellent clinical skills and professional leadership capabilities with a focus on collaborative teamwork, patient flow and quality improvements
• Prior experience working in a changing atmosphere would be beneficial
• Knowledge of the Patient Flow process would be beneficial
• Demonstrated excellence in communication, both written and verbal
• Demonstrated problem assessment skills
• Demonstrated commitment to customer service and teamwork
• Demonstrated individual leadership skills
